Naschmarkt Opening Hours 2027 — Full Schedule by Day

🌐 Language: English | Deutsch

Plan your visit to Vienna's Naschmarkt with the official opening hours for 2027. The table below is published by the City of Vienna (wien.gv.at, last updated 29.06.2026) and covers every segment of the market — food stalls, farmers' and artisan squares, restaurants and bars, and the extra flower trade. Different parts of the market open and close at different times, so check the row that matters for what you want to buy or eat.

🚫 THE FOOD MARKET IS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS

This is the single most important thing to know before you go: the Naschmarkt food stalls, produce vendors, farmers' market squares and artisan stalls are completely closed on Sundays and on public holidays that fall on a Sunday pattern. There is no Sunday food trading at Vienna's Naschmarkt. If a travel guide or map tells you the market is open on Sunday, it is wrong.

Only the restaurants and bars along the market stay open on Sundays (08:00–23:00), and the flower trade opens for a few special Sundays (see below). Everything else — the food, the spices, the fresh produce, the cheese, the olive oil — is shut.

Naschmarkt is Vienna's most vibrant food market, open six days a week with over 120 stalls and restaurants offering everything from fresh produce to international cuisine. The market operates year-round, with vendors setting up their stalls as early as 6:00 AM to serve the breakfast crowd.

What each segment means in practice

Food stalls are the produce, spice, cheese, deli and baked-goods vendors — the heart of the market for grocery shoppers. They open at 06:00 for the breakfast and lunch trade and close at 21:00 on weekdays, 18:00 on Saturdays. The farmers' and artisan squares run slightly shorter hours (until 19:30 on weekdays) and are where local growers, honey, preserves and handmade goods sit. The restaurants and bars are the long-haul part of the market: open from 06:00 to 23:00 Monday to Saturday, and 08:00 to 23:00 on Sundays and public holidays — so even on a closed Sunday you can still eat along the market. The flower trade opens extra hours (09:00–19:00) on selected Sundays and public holidays, mainly around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and All Saints' Day.

🛒 Saturday Flea Market (Flohmarkt) — 06:30–15:00

Every Saturday: 06:30 – 15:00 (City of Vienna official; the Vienna Tourist Board still quotes 14:00 — do not plan on the last hour). Location: Linke Wienzeile beside Kettenbrückengasse U-Bahn station (U4), 6th district. Austria's largest flea market with around 400 private sellers and professional dealers offering antiques, vintage clothing, records, books and curiosities.

Best window: 06:30–07:30 for the best selection and room to negotiate; 08:00–11:00 for moderate crowds; after 11:00 tourist crowds build and prices harden.

December 2026 exceptions (City of Vienna): Saturday 12 December and Saturday 19 December run as restricted markets only — the Christmas tree market replaces the usual flea market, so expect a very different, much smaller offering. Saturday 26 December 2026 = NO market at all (City rule: no market on 25–26 December). Saturday 2 January 2027 = normal flea market resumes. Note that Thursday 24 and 31 December end at 12:00 — those are weekdays and do not affect the Saturday schedule.

💡 Pro Tip: Check current Vienna weather before your visit and plan accordingly!

📅 Sundays, Public Holidays & the Marktraum

Sunday food market: closed, full stop. Retail food stalls, the farmers' squares and artisan stalls do not trade on Sundays or on public holidays that follow a Sunday pattern. This is a genuine gap in how visitors find the market — searchers assume the market is open on Sunday and arrive to closed shutters. Plan a Sunday visit for restaurants and bars only (08:00–23:00): it is a quiet, pleasant stroll with a coffee or lunch, but you cannot shop for food, produce or gifts.

Public holidays: on a public holiday that falls on a weekday (Monday–Saturday), the market generally operates on its weekday schedule. On a Sunday or a holiday observed on a Sunday, the food market is closed — only restaurants, bars and the flower trade open.

🌸 Flower Trade — Extra Sunday & Holiday Hours

The flower trade at the Naschmarkt opens for extra hours on Sundays and public holidays: 09:00 – 19:00. This applies to selected high-demand dates, mainly Valentine's Day (14 February), Mother's Day (second Sunday in May) and All Saints' Day (1 November). On ordinary Sundays the flower section is closed along with the rest of the food market.

🏛️ Marktraum — the New Market Hall (opened November 2025)

The Marktraum is the market's new covered hall, opened in November 2025 and run by the City of Vienna (MA 59). It houses 13 market stands with a regional product offering — a curated, indoor selection of Austrian and regional specialties, sheltered from the weather year-round.

Location: 6., Naschmarkt, Sector 2, entrance opposite Linke Wienzeile 34, in the new office building (Stand C14/C15). Hours: Monday–Friday 06:00–21:00, Saturday 06:00–18:00 — the same as the main market, so it is closed on Sundays too. Contact: +43 1 4000 04661, sued@ma59.wien.gv.at.

💰 Payment & Practical Tips

Cash Preferred: Many vendors prefer cash payments, especially for smaller purchases. It's recommended to bring cash for food stalls and smaller items.

Public Transport: Easily accessible via U4 line (Kettenbrückengasse or Karlsplatz stations) or U1/U2 (Karlsplatz).

Seasonal Considerations: The market operates year-round, but outdoor dining is most pleasant during spring through autumn. Winter visitors should dress warmly as much of the market is open-air.
